Day 16 & 17
(We have arrived! I am currently on my in-laws computer which only has dial up. I will not be able to post pics yet as they are on my computer. I will update and post pictures as soon as I can.)
Day 16
We left Arizona and headed into New Mexico today. We stopped in Roswell. That was one place both me and Jr. wanted to see.
We planned to stop at the Little A"Le"Inn but could not find it. Instead we toured an UFO museum. It was neat.
We then had lunch and headed toward the Carlsbad Caverns.
At the Carlsbad Caverns we took an elevator 750 feet down to the bottom of the caverns. The trip took less than one minute.
Words cannot even begin to explain how incredible these caverns were. Around each corner I found something else that took my breath away. Out of all the places we have seen this is by far my favorite.
The self guided tour we took was supposed to take an hour and a half. We ended up spending three hours in the caverns. I could probably have spend a lot more if Hubby was not pushing me along.
I took my digital camera in and took a total of 243 pictures. There may have been more but that was all my camera would hold.
We tried to get a motel room by the caverns but they were all full. We decided to head to Pecos, the next bigger town to look for one.
We crossed into Texas.
As our luck would have it Pecos (the home of the first rodeo as I found out) was holding a rodeo and we could not find a single room. We hit the road again. We finally found one little rickey dink motel off the side of the highway. The rooms were cheap and the inside of the room showed why.
The rooms were not very clean, not filthy, but not what one would expect for a hotel room. And the locks on the doors were ify. The adjoining door to the next room had no lock at all. Hubby moved around furniture and blocked both doors.
We were just too tired to drive anymore and decided to catch a few hours of sleep and head out of there as soon as we woke. I don't even know what town it was we ended up stopping in.
Day 17
Somewhere around Houston, Texas
We have arrived! Texas at last!
Today we drove through San Antonio heading toward Houston. We hit rain for the first time in several days.
We did not stop to sight see today. We were just to anxious to get to our final destination.
It is so nice to be out of the car! We had a great trip and saw a lot of neat things, but it enough was enough. It was time to get out of the cars and rest.
From Fairbanks, Alaska to Texas we have traveled a little over 5,000 miles. It is good to be home.

Arrghhh! You guys were in Houston?! I've been so busy I haven't been able to keep up with anyone. Oh well, maybe next time our families could meet up.

I can't believe it! We just moved from Washington state to San Antonio and I am completely reliving our trip through your pictures. We left WA drove through parts of Oregon, Idaho and Utah (stopped and visited family in Provo for two days) and visited the National Arches, then drove through corner of CO and visited the Aztec ruins in Aztec, NM as well as stayed the night in Roswell. Of course we went to the UFO museum and got a portrait of us stuck behind the Area 51 gate. Then we drove through Pecos TX and arrived in San Antonio...THanks for the post :) What are the chances? I do wish we had gone to the Grand Canyon but hubby had to report in and we didn't have to much time, plus we had TWO CATS with us.

It's funny I just found your blog after you'd already left town. Anyway, you've missed a lot of rain this week here in Fairbanks.
My husband and I will be making a similar trek down to TN from Fairbanks in a couple of weeks. And then it's off to Iraq for him.
I hope your trip went well. Enjoy normal some normal light and a/c.
